It’s hearsay at best; let me be very clear about that. But with a declining PC market and a less successful launch of Ryzen 7000 processors because of platform cost, AMD might need to fab fewer processors.
Word is that Wccftech has read (or obtained) an inside business document advocating for lower Ryzen 7000-series channel supply. AMD recently revised its Q3-2022 revenue outlook, blaming sluggish PC demand. According to the article, enthusiasts are keeping the AM5 processors afloat at present; the Ryzen 9 7900X has been the top/best seller, with sales supposedly being the highest across the Zen 4 series. The $549 US CPU appears to be significantly more appealing than the $399 US Ryzen 7 7700X and the $299 US Ryzen 5 7600X. We feel that the bulk of purchasers can simply stay on AM4, upgrade to the Ryzen 75800X3D on the current AM4 platform for superior gaming performance instead of investing in an entirely new platform.
Regardless it isn’t good news; perhaps lower prices on processors and AM5 platforms a bit more to get sales up again?
